NOVAC7 the new generation mobile Linear Accelerator introduces remarkable innovation to Surgery and Radiation therapy Departments

 

Novac7 has brought IORT to a new dimension and stimulates a truly innovative collaboration between the Surgical and Radiotherapy Departments The clinically efficient results and the reduced side effects on the patient, combined with the advantages for the hospital (structural, organisational and economical), make Novac7 an indispensable treatment system for modern oncology. 

Totally free from interference on  surgical or monitoring equipment, Novac7 carries out the entire course of treatment in about 15 minutes, of which about one minute dedicated to irradiation. The Novac7 applicators are easy to use and to sterilise.

 

Mobility

Novac7 is  a mobile device, composed of  a radiating structure, that does not emit X rays, and of a control console.  The equipment is powered by a standard power outlet. 

Its positioning and movement to different operating rooms can be considered a routine use; no specific dosimetric tests are necessary.

Mobility is achieved by a motor driven system, powered by a remote control (joy-stick). The agility of movement of the radiating head with its 6 degrees of freedom, gives Novac7 exceptional precision in positioning and centering. The light weight of the radiating structure  does not pose any strain to the stability of  normal floors.

 

Properties of the beam

Only a few minutes are sufficient to prepare the device for radiation and less than 20 seconds to emit a dose of 10Gy on a field of 6 cm. The auto-focusing radiating structure (patented), is magnetic lens free. The geometry of the applicators does not require  dispersion filters. 

 

Novac7 is a device with very high short and long term beam stability. The energy range of  Novac7, from 4 to 10 MeV, avoids production of neutrons which, even if low,  are rather difficult to shield within a conventional O.R.

Novac7 is also effective on the tumour bed when macroscopic surgical residues are evident. At maximum energy the 80% isodose reaches the depth of 30 mm.

 

Software

Novac7 is equipped with a user friendly database management system, that memorises the data of each treatment: all clinical and technical details of the patient, parameters related to irradiation, isodose curves corresponding to different choices of irradiation parameters.  The software is complete with managerial procedures and web protocols for the collection of clinical data.
